Our Y

The YMCA of Southwestern Ontario is a multi-service charity that provides opportunity for personal growth for all background, beliefs and abilities.  We employ over 1500 staff and 390 volunteers.  Our Y provides programs and services to approximately 32,000 members and numerous non-member program participants and has an annual operating budget of approximately $47 million.  Our services are varied and include Child Care, Health, Fitness and Recreation, Newcomer Support, Camping and Youth Engagement.

As we continue to grow, we have a need for the following positions:

  1. School Age Supervisors
  2. School Age Educators
  3. School Age Supply Educators

At various locations available in Strathroy, Lucan and Glencoe.

Start Date:  ASAP

End Date:  June 28, 2019

Hours:  Monday to Friday 7:15 am - 9:15 am and/or 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Note:  There may be potential for in between shifts/hours in our Child Care locations

The YMCA of Western Ontario has immediate vacancies for the above positions.  Our school age programs provide a positive, safe and nurturing environment where children can develop to their full potential.  We pride ourselves in value based programming, which incorporates the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.  This position provides you an opportunity to contribute to the well-being and full participation of children in their community.


  • Develop and facilitate a before and after school program for students 4 - 12 years of age in their school
  • Ensure the safety of students enrolled in the program through direct supervision, attendance protocols, and age appropriate programming
  • Implementation of the YMCA curriculum to meet the needs, interests and talents of all children
  • Working professionally with caregivers, school personnel, outside agencies and other team members
  • Solving parent concerns in a customer focused manner
  • Proactively developing relationships with children, peers, volunteers and parents
  • Adhering to child safety/security policies and practices
  • Supporting and following Child Care & Early Years Act (2014) requirements
  • Before & After School PRogram hours of operation:  7:15 am - 9:15 am and/or 3:00 - 6:00 pm
Education RequirementPost Secondary Degree Experience Requirement

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid Standard First Aid & CPR Level C from WHMIS approved agency
  • Current successful Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Experience working with children is preferred
  • Early Childhood Education Diploma or equivalent, Child and Youth Worker Diploma, Recreation Leadership Diploma or equivalent is preferred

Salary Details

School Age Supervisors $18.00 per hour

School Age Educators $17.00 per hour

School Age Supply Educators $17.00 per hour

*This includes $2.00 per hour provided through a provincial wage enhancement grant
