Job Description

BJ’s Country Market is hiring a Back-end Associate, for their Deli and Meat Department, in a shipping and receiving role.

Reports To: Management

Duties

Customer Service/Customer Experience
• Providing service to customers requiring meat cutting or answering questions that are department-specific
• Assisting with servicing customers as required

General Store Management
• Keeping work area clean, supplies stocked, and cooler and back freezer organized
• Keeping back garage clean and unobstructed
• Wiping down/cleaning shelves regularly
• Maintaining organized back cooler & Freezer shelves/ floors
• Keeping deli area & all other work station clean & sanitized at all times
• Cooking chickens/wings throughout the day for the Hot Bar

The back end Associate is also responsible for performing any other duties related to their position as directed by the Store Manager and, when schedule and workload permit, the owners

Shipping & Receiving Main Functions:

  • All shipping and receiving for all orders
  • Ensuring all orders are checked off and put away in the correct location
  • Ensuring the back shipping area is kept clean & tidy
  • Making sure the walk-in freezers and meat coolers are always organized and tidy- boxes are put away (there is always a clear walk way)
  • Maintaining the Big Green Egg displays, retail shelves- Face stock up- making sure there is shelf labels, filling any items that are empty from back bins (accessories & Charcoal)
  • Keeping inventory of Big Green Egg parts and Accessories – what is needed for an order/what is getting low (etc)
  • Maintaining Ceramic grill accessories, restocking from storage
  • Gaining knowledge in Big Green Egg & Ceramic grill to help make sales
  • Go to person for information about the products
  • Outdoor furniture – Puts order away when customers arrive and helps with loading

Deli & Meat Clerk Main Functions:

  • Facing the deli & cheese counter
  • Checking dates regularly
  • Fixing any vacuum packs that are broken; relabeling as required
  • Cutting/slicing and packaging all meat and cheese to ensure counter is full
  • Packaging smoked meat products from our smoker & received from Schinkel’s/Halenda
  • Managing appearance of 2 Deli Cooler doors
  • Cooking chickens/wings throughout the day for the Hot Bar
  • Filling & facing up retail freezer with inventory from large freezer (going through shelves and all over stock crates)
  • Responsible for all chicken processing on Tuesday & Thursday
  • Responsible for slicing all sandwich meat for front end, & ensuring the deli is closed off and cleaned before leaving (BBQ, Slicers, Tables, Shelves)
  • Available for assistance from both deli & butcher shop in: Any processing, or packaging (examples: Packing sausage and burgers, wrapping meat pies, etc.)
  • Helping with any back end customer service

Working Conditions
• Variable hours as scheduled, Monday to Sunday
• Breaks are dependent on length of shift and are compliant with current employment standards
• Requires long periods of standing

Education RequirementNot Applicable Experience Requirement

• Previous experience as a butcher is an asset
• On-the-job training is provided and mandatory
• Proficiency in written and spoken English
